For Food Waste project, we have analyzed PESTEL as following.
1. Political
- Tax policy:
high tax fee for Thai company doing business with unhygine products; including
the recycle business
- Government
leadership: to persuade thai people become more aware of separating waste, the
government must have strong action.
- Government
plan: currently Thai government has not had long term plan on properly
sepearating wastes; consequently, it is quite difficult for the country to
initiate the food composting
2. Economic
- Home economic situation: most Thai household prefer to
product food more than enough for each meal. This leads to the huge amount of
wastes
- Economic growth: the more growth in thai economic, the
more restaurabts and street food have in Bangkok. In Bangkok, almost every road
in Bangkok have restauranats and street foods. Each day the foods are over
produced. No doubt this food finally becomes waste!
3. Social
- Attitude & opinion: Thai people still see waste as non
value and disgusting things; therefore, they do not care much where and how the
wastes will be managed.
- Education: there is no proper and correct information to
educate Thai people on value of waste. To educate and inform them is one of the
most key to change their attitude.
- Quality of living: In bangkok it clearly see that the
medium to high class of people live with the good environmental surroundings.
On the opposite site the low income people their neighborhood is pretty low
standard. For instance, the house is located next to the waste areas.
4. Technological
- Alternative energy from waste: in thailand we have biogas
made from waste composting; however, the scale is very small. Again, educating
and informing the right information is necessary.
- Landfill: Bangkok municipal still manages the waste by
using landfill. Hence, if we still following this system, we need to find more
land to handle future wastes.
5. Legal
- Environmental regulation: even though Thailand has
environmental regulation, the government has not rules them as they should do!
Consequently, people still destroy and invade Thai natural resouces. For
example; invading and firing forests, killing wild animals, throwing trashes
along the road or to the river.
- Trash collection system: most Thai households do not
seperate the wastes properly. This give the difficult task for the government
to separate them which it consumes lots of time to separate.
6. Environmental:
- Climate: thailand has a very hot weather. It causes the
fresh wastes rotten easily. The unproper waste management lead to cause of
disease such as cholera. Also, the fresh food waste cause methane gas which
lead to green effects.
